Housewarming Gifts

3

my friend is coming in to visit me, and she was going to stay at my house. At the last minute, I told her that we would have more room if we slept at my grandparent’s house and just hung out at my house during the day. She wanted to give a housewarming gift but she doesn’t know who to give it to– my parents or my grandparents? I’m not sure but I think that she gives US the gift, and it’s our responsibility to give a gift to my grandparents as a "thank you" gesture for hosting out guest. Am I right?

I have never had a housewarming party. Any ideas on this event? How to set up? What type of food and decor? Or ideas for gifts?

My best friend is getting married in May 08 but will be buying a home with her fiance this month; October 2007. We planned on a housewarming party at their new home 3 or so weeks after they’ve finished moving in. Now a family member is saying that would not be proper etiquette but it would be fine to do a housewares shower instead and asked people to purchase gift’s off their wedding registry. I understand that people aren’t "suppossed" to move in together before the wedding, however why would the party itself be "tacky".
In my opinion the housewarming has nothing to do with the Wedding and in the event she ended up getting gifts which were on the wedding registry or even specifically asked for the purchases to be from it" She has plenty of time to remove them from teh registry to avoid duplicate gifts before the wedding in 7 months? How would that be tacky? Please help. What is the difference anyway Housewarming Party vs. Housewares Shower?
